Airport Reports Highest Monthly Boardings Since 1998
Huntington, WV---- Huntington Tri-State Airport continues to experience substantially higher volumes of passenger traffic compared to passengers utilizing the airport’s services in the past. The airport boarded 6,312 passengers in July, representing a 77% increase over July 2006. “July boardings represent the highest monthly boardings since October 1998,” stated Beckie McKinley, the airport’s Marketing Director. Year-to-date passenger boardings are up 76% over last year according to recently released airport statistics.
Boardings on US Airways service to Charlotte increased by 26% over July 2006 and represented 34% of the traffic from Tri-State. Allegiant Air, which provides non-stop, low fare service to Orlando / Daytona Beach, carried 33% of the total passengers.
Allegiant Air, which averaged 98% full for the month, was operating on a expanded seasonal service schedule, and had 750 additional seats than other months. The increased seasonal service continues through Thursday August 9th, and will then return to the normal schedule of two flights a week until November. Allegiant Air has just announced that the company will add a third weekly flight on November 13 to accommodate the increased winter passenger traffic to central Florida. Huntington service to Orlando is on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays and fares are currently listed as low as $79 each way.
