Passenger Boardings Continue to Remain High
Huntington, WV---- Huntington Tri-State Airport continues to experience substantially higher volumes of passenger traffic compared to passengers utilizing the airport’s services in the past. Year-to-date passenger boardings are up 73% over last year according to recently released airport statistics. A total of 36,987 passengers have enplaned and deplaned so far this year.
April’s total passenger boardings increased by 61% over April 2006. Delta Connection’s boardings to Cincinnati increased by 91% over April 2006 while boardings on US Airways Express remained relatively the same. The newest carrier, Allegiant Air, contributed significantly to the increased traffic by adding an additional 1206 enplanements during the month, representing 26% of the total passengers departing from Tri-State Airport.
“We’ve been extremely encouraged by the public’s response to the Allegiant service,” expressed Airport Director Larry Salyers. “As the demand for the service changes, Allegiant has been adjusting the number of flights to meet the needs of the tri-state travelers”, Salyers continued.
Allegiant Air, which provides non-stop, low-fare, all-jet service to Orlando, Florida, will be expanding their service to three flights a week beginning June 7th, to accommodate summer travelers. The increased service will continue through August 9th.
“Lower fares offered by US Airways Express and Delta Connection have also helped stimulate passenger traffic,” noted Salyers.
