HTS Breaks All-Time Monthly Boardings Record
(August 8, 2011) – A record 14,270 passengers boarded flights from Huntington Tri-State Airport (HTS) during July 2011, representing the highest number of monthly enplanements reported in the history of the airport. During the month of July, the airport served a total of 28,440 arriving and departing passengers. July’s boardings were up 5.6% over the same month last year, and up 8 ½ % over June 2011.
Low fare carrier, Allegiant Air, also broke an all-time monthly record at HTS, boarding 9,507 passengers in July. The numbers were further boosted by Delta Air Lines, posting a 47% increase in boardings over the same month last year, while US Airways posted a 2.6% increase.
Delta Air Lines recently began non-stop service to Detroit from Huntington, providing Delta tri-state business and leisure travelers the access to an additional 87 new connecting cities. The Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is a major Delta hub, and was recently rated the country’s best large airport in a passenger survey conducted by J.D Power. Huntington Tri-State Airport has seen monthly increases in Delta’s service since the new route began in March.
Allegiant provides non-stop low fare service from Huntington to Florida destinations -- Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, and St. Petersburg/Clearwater, and seasonal service to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. US Airways provides nonstop service to Charlotte, with connecting service to world-wide destinations.
