Airport Celebrates Fifth Anniversary of Allegiant Service
(Huntington, WV)--Huntington Tri-State Airport is celebrating the 5year anniversary of air service provided by low-cost carrier, Allegiant this week. Since offering the first flight Nov. 3, 2006 from Huntington to Orlando, the popular low fare, vacation airline has carried over 500,000 tri-state area passengers. To celebrate, the airport will be hosting a passenger appreciation day on Friday, Nov. 4, featuring refreshments and giveaway items.
Allegiant also offers non-stop service to three other destinations from Huntington, in addition to Orlando: St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Fort Lauderdale, and Myrtle Beach. All routes utilize the 150-seat, MD-80 series, jet aircraft.
The airport has been steadily adding passengers since Allegiant’s arrival. Within five years, Tri-State has grown from an all-time low of 39,000 annual boardings in 2006, to 117,000 in 2010, recording its highest annual boardings in over 30 years.
Also, during Allegiant’s presence, Tri-State Airport has achieved several other milestones:
- The overall average fare at the airport has dropped by 30%
- The airport was ranked as the fastest growing airport in the eastern region of the U.S., for airports having 100,000 + enplanements in 2010
